Social Emotional Learning
(SEL)

Social emotional learning is the process which people learn and apply knowledge/skills to understand ourselves, connect with others, achieve goals, and support communities.

The following information is from The Collaborative for Academic, Social, Emotional Learning (CASEL). CASEL provides high-quality, evidence based SEL to preK-12 students.

The CASEL 5:

The five interrelated categories are as follows;

  1. Self-awareness

  2. Self-management

  3. Social awareness

  4. Relationship skills

  5. Responsible decision-making

CASEL's framework uses a systematic approach that emphasizes the importance in establishing learning environments for SEL. These include; schools, classrooms, families, and communities.
